Premier League giants Arsenal have announced that its Pro Evolution Soccer (PES) team will be managed by the online tournament provider, broadcaster and event organizer of the Esports Entertainment Group, Esports Gaming League (EGL) for the second consecutive year. Arsenal will be competing in the eFootball League for its third season, alongside nine other clubs.

Arsenal and the Esports Gaming League first announced their association in 2019, with the latter having recruited potential players to represent the Gunners in the newly formed eFootball League. The league is made up by the likes of Manchester United, Juventus, Bayern Munich and AS Monaco, with the event being organized by Konami, the developer of Pro Evolution Soccer.

What the EGL Has Had to Say on the Partnership Renewal

Speaking on the recent news, EGL CEO, Glen Elliot stated in a press release that: “Arsenal came within one point of Knockout Stage contention in their inaugural season last year, and we’re excited to see what happens this season.”

Meanwhile, Esports Entertainment Group CEO, Grant Johnson, has also had his say on the renewal of the partnership, stating that: “Arsenal recognizes the value of EGL’s wealth of experience in esports, and so do we. We look forward to completing the EGL acquisition and integrating Glen and his team’s expertise into our organisation.

“Their work with Arsenal and many others, similar to deals we announced with the LA Galaxy, Philadelphia Union, and more, provides a strong foothold in major sporting which continues to turn to esports as a way for teams to connect and engage fans.”

Why Arsenal Were Keen to Renew Their Partnership with the EGL

EGL’s experience in the Esports industry is likely to continue to be invaluable to Arsenal, meaning that it comes as little surprise that the two parties have come to an agreement to extend their partnership.

The eFootball League is made up of two different events, eFootball.Pro and eFootball.Open. The first caters for world class Esports players, while the latter is open to all. The new season kicked off earlier in December, with players and teams hoping to eventually reach the World Finals.
