AMD’s long-awaited RDNA 2 integrated graphics (or iGPU, for short) will reportedly be about as powerful as NVIDIA’s GTX 1650! And that, if true, is simply mind-blowing! There’s just no other way to put it, really. We’re talking about a bona fide quantum leap here!

This means that, if you happen to be content with 1080p gaming on Medium(ish) settings, you might not even need a dedicated GPU going forward. A crazy notion, by all means, but a wholly plausible one. It all depends on the kind of games you’re looking to play. Cyberpunk 2077 is obviously out of the question, but that, too, could be playable if you tinker with the settings long enough!

In any case, we’re intrigued beyond measure and can’t wait to see these APUs hit the market!

A Spectacular Jump in Performance

According to a well known leaker, AMD’s “Rembrandt” APUs (presumably the top-of-the-line ones) will score around 2700 points in 3DMark Time Spy — an astounding result, no doubt. We don’t know which specific SKU we’re talking about here, but it’s safe to assume that it’ll be on the more powerful (and therefore pricier) end of the spectrum.

Moreover, there’s still no RDNA 2 iGPU driver support which means that these results are all but guaranteed to improve even further once AMD has a bit more time to work on the software side of things. This, if true, would make these RDNA 2 integrated graphics more powerful than the Radeon RX 560 and GTX 1650 — assuming you have a blazingly fast kit of DDR5 RAM, of course. Overclocking will also be an option which means buyers will be able to squeeze out even more power from AMD’s bleeding edge architecture. By the looks of it, we’re getting a 2x performance uplift over AMD’s Vega graphics.

If things really do pan out this way, “team red” will have an absolute winner on their hands! And, well, they might upend the entire market yet again in much the same fashion as they did back with their now legendary Ryzen processors.

These fascinating APUs are already in production and should be hitting the market in a matter of months if not weeks. Expect to see them in desktop OEM builds, gaming laptops, ultrabooks, and even small form factor NUC-like machines! Their efficient nature means they’ll run cooler and quieter than anything Intel currently has to offer, and with such a potent iGPU, you’ll be able to game to your heart’s content without spending hundreds upon hundreds of dollars on a dedicated graphics card!

In other words: what a time to be alive if you’re a budget-conscious gamer looking to build an affordable — and yet sufficiently powerful — PC!

We’ll get a lot more information on AMD’s upcoming “Rembrandt” APUs at CES 2022, so stay tuned!
