AMD is reportedly working on two entry-level desktop graphics cards: the Radeon RX 6400 and the RX 6500XT! This is incredibly exciting news for the budget-minded among us and those who are perfectly content with 1080p gaming on Medium-High settings.

Plus, with GPUs selling for two, three, or even four times their intended MSRPs, we sure could use a couple of budget-friendly options! AMD and NVIDIA know this, and are just waiting for the right moment to announce their lower-end offerings. They’re also playing the ‘waiting game’ — neither wants to make the first move, especially seeing how their mid- and high-end graphics cards are still selling like hot cakes.

Solid, Albeit Far From High-End

If the rumor mill is to be believed, both SKUs will feature the Navi 24 GPU, an “entry-level graphics processor” with 16 Compute Units and a total of 1024 stream processors, resulting in 50% of the cores found on Navi 23. This means they won’t be able to run the latest and greatest titles at maxed out settings, but will nonetheless suffice for anyone who’s content with lowering their settings to reach that oh-so-important 60FPS mark.

The RX 6500XT will supposedly feature the full GPU die, with the RX 6400 receiving a cut-down version.

Both SKUs will have 4GB of GDDR6 memory and a 64-bit bus interface. As such, they’ll be aimed at the entry-level segment of the market with sub-$200 MSRPs or, at worst, $250. We’re still very light on details, but these GPUs are expected to be unveiled sometime in Q1 2022, potentially around CES.

AMD will face an uphill battle with NVIDIA working on its own entry-level RTX 3050 and RTX 3050 Ti, two graphics cards that will offer a lot more bang for the back. With built-in DLSS support (and a lot more bells and whistles), these GPUs will undoubtedly entice buyers in ways AMD’s graphics cards cannot, so expect very competitive prices across the board.
