Interview with Therese 'trito' Andersson

"I wish Fox would lose against me"

Therese 'trito' Andersson - a quake playing woman, living in Stockholm together with one of swedens most known Quake-Player Magnus 'Fox' Olsson and won over 5,000 USD at the Miss-QuakeCon-Event 2005. In the interview she spoke about Quake, her clan g0d and Fox.

German Version

I've seen you playing lots of Quake Live in the past. What is your impression of the game?

Therese 'trito' Andersson: I like it a lot. Quake 3 has always been my favourite game and I'm glad I get to play it in a new version. I also like how active the Quake Live community is, there are a lot of people playing.

Do you think that Quake Live can live up the hype and grow as an eSports game again?

Therese 'trito' Andersson
Age: 30
Location: Stockholm
Clan: girlz 0f destruction

trito: Yes I think it can, it has a lot of potential. First of all a lot of people are already playing and ejoying the game. With eSports games like Quake 4 and Painkiller not a lot of people were playing the games and the communities were not that strong. Second of all I think Quake Live can attract sponsors in a new way with the in game banner spots. This might help getting sponsors for big tournamnets in the future.

Even in such bad times like now with tournaments like ESWC getting postponed or maybe even closed forever?

trito: The financial crisis haven't been good for any business, especially not for esports. When the world economy is starting to get back on track and companies don't need to downsize anymore I'm pretty sure eSports will grow once again.

Did the Swedish gaming scene change since the beginning of the financial crisis and some major clans like MeetYourMakers breaking down?

trito playing at QCon
trito: I guess most Swedish top players are signed with international organizations rather than Swedish, so I wouldn't say I've seen any specific changes for Sweden. The Quake scene was calm even before the financial crisis since there hasn't been that many tournaments to practice for and there hasn't really been a main game to play.

The Swedes are well known for dominating the Quake scene. Do you think QL can attract old players like Purri or Fooki again?

trito: I know a lot of the Swedish top players are already playing Quake Live. Fooki has been playing quite a lot and I hope we get to see him in big tournaments, even though I know he is really busy with his studies. I know Purri is playing clan arena for fun. I'm not sure if he will try to compete in Quake Live since he has a disadvantage coming from Quake 2 compared to the top players coming from Quake 3.

What about Toxic? Maybe an iCE-Climbers comeback with Fox?

trito: When I talked to Toxic some weeks ago he wasn't really playing the game yet, but I think we can expect him to play if Quake Live becomes a big eSports game. Fox is playing some and I'm sure we will see him in big tournaments since Quake 3 has been his strongest game.
It would be great with an iCE-Climbers comeback for TDM. I don't think we will see one in online tournaments, but if there were some LAN tournaments with big prize money I wouldn't be surprised to see iCE-Climbers kicking ass in TDM again.

Do you have any special plans for the future with Quake Live, like concentrating on 1on1 or keep on playing the game for fun?

trito: I like playing duels and I will continue doing this and compete in tournaments if I get the chance. I will also focus on getting as many games going with girlz 0f destruction. We have now four active players in Europe including me, anouc, Liefje and our latest recruit Videl. We will focus on playing TeamDeathMatch, but also some ClanArena for fun.

Tell us more about g0d. Didn't Videl use to play Warsow before?

g0d at QuakeCon
trito: g0d is an international clan founded 2001 and since the start we have been playing FPS games focusing on Quake. We have also been playing other games like UT, Painkiller and Doom, but Quake is the game that has been closest to most of our hearts.

2006 four of us were living in Sweden in a gaming house called Home of Chrome sponsored by VIA Technologies. With Quake Live we are looking forward to play the game together as a team, but also in duels. And yes, Videl has been playing Warsow. We were really happy to get in contact with her since she is not only a skilled Warsow player, she also has real Quake Live skills.

Wasn't it hard to show her how to play Quake since Warsow has a completley different gameplay?

trito: No, she has been playing Quake 3 too and she was already playing QL when she joined our clan, we didn't have to show her anything.

You've been in a relationship with Fox for over three years now. Did that affect you somehow in playing Quake? Are you playing some games versus him from time to time?

trito: I had been playing Quake for several years when I met Fox, so our relationship didn't really affect my gaming. Sometimes we play clan arena with each other, but we never play against each other because it often results in one of us being in a bad mood, not optional for a relationship. (smiles)

So Fox doesn't like losing versus you?

trito: Haha. I wish he had lost against me, only in my dreams. But he gets in a bad mood if I play too good and get too many frags. And I get angry if he wins too easy.

Alright then. Now tell us something about your time before you found Quake. How and when did you started with playing video games?

trito: Already as a kid I loved video games. Me, my sisters and my mom were often playing Nintendo. I seldom played PC games though since I didn't have a PC. I bought my first computer when I started studying at university. That's also when I started to play Quake 3. Some guys in my class were playing in the computer hall at the university.
I thought it looked fun since it reminded me of Doom that I had played on Playstation. I liked the game immediately and playing just at school wasn't enough for me. I got myself a new graphic card and started to play the game at home too.

I guess you were studying something with movies and filming, am I right?

trito: I was studying multimedia, but we only had a few classes invlolvning filming. I was mostly learning web design, programming, software development and information technology. The knowledge of filming and editing video I got from working with the student TV at my uni.

Well, that sounds 100% like a job which is dominated by men. What was important for you to choose that way?

liefje and trito
trito: I didn't really choose to be working as a camera (wo)man and video editor, it just happened. I had my mind set on working as a website programmer, but I started to get small jobs involving filming and the job offers started to get more and bigger. Suddenly I was working as a camera (wo)man and video editor full time, without really having it planned.

And now you are working as a one-(wo)man army for your own company trito productions?

trito: Yes, I'm often a consultant for bigger production companies and TV channels. I fill in when they have a spot open in their productions.

But lots of your work I could found was based on eSports and gaming. Do you see this job as a chance to help eSports grow in general?

trito: When working on the biggest news show for Swedish Television I managed to convince them to send a news report from QuakeCon about toxics and fox’s success. I think getting eSports out in media like that helps esport to grow. But for me personally, making eSports videos is a fun way to combine my work with my interest.

You got any more interests beside gaming and doing videos?

trito: I'm quite active and like to do sports. I play in a soccer team and indoor hockey. I also go to the gym doing bodycombat and other workouts. Other than that I like travelling and the usual you know: friends, beer, wine, music, movies.

A girl that plays Quake and likes beer... That's impossible!

trito: Who doesn't like beer?! (smiles) Most of the girls in my clan like beer. We sometimes drink beer, talk on voice and play Clan Arena.

Alright, I understand. Let's come to an end. How does a regular day look like in the life of trito?

trito: If I'm working I'm often getting up 8:00 am to go to work. If I don't work too late I go to the gym and I get home around 21:00. If I don't work I get up around 09:00 and sit around on IRC all day and play Quake Live. (smiles)

Thanks for your time, any last words?

trito: Thanks for the interview and I want to give hugs and kisses to the girls in my clan.

Thank you for the interview!
