Jarod Reisin talks about new AGP-Tour site

"We plan on using Quake Live only"

The constructions on AGP-Tour's website are in full operations and in about two weeks the last stage of its beta phase will begin. For you fragster sat down with Jarod Reisin, the CEO behind the "Quake only"-Tour, and did a short interview.

fragster.de: Hey Jarod, there's only a couple of people involved in the beta phase of your site. But can you already give us some details? What can we expect from the closed beta of www.agptour.com and what's the project's current state?

Jarod Reisin: Well, we're still in beta. So the site is open to those who got invited and those in our IRC channel. AGPtour.com should be a relief to a lot of fans. It will be a very simple site with a lot of depth within it. It will cover all official AGP Tour news and AGP news, as well as be a small hub for other things going on in the scene. We will have a rapidly growing database of all past Quake 3 scene related articles and videos. There won't be a jumble mess of words or blinking ads everywhere. We want it simple and fast. And it is.

Also, a big feature will be our "Classics" section where we have all major Quake 3 tournaments since they began and will slowly have videos of all the matches (that we can get demos for). Right now our Classics section will cover Quake 3 1v1 and later on other modes like TDM and CTF as well.

Wow, are you talking about every single match of every remarkable tournament? Isn't that too much of a strain for your bandwidth?

AGP-Tour Information:
Website: agptour.com
Channel: #agptour [irc]
Tourney-Game: Quake 3/Live
Kick-off: N/A
Venues: International
Jarod: No, because we're using YouTube for the videos and flickr for photos. We are utilizing all we can to spread this sport to as many potential fans as possible. We plan on having the winner Point of View (POV) of every final by site launch. We're also planning on having a match of the week video. We would like to see the community getting together and watching and making comments like a bunch of friends watching an old basketball game on ESPN.

Will the users be able to upload videos themselves?

Jarod: No. We're doing this in house. But they can send us the demos of course.
So it's to keep the videos at a certain standard. But: Kind of, yes. We have a YouTube channel and with all the tests we have done, which are a plenty, people would have a hard time doing what we have done to keep the quality.

Which features are you planning to release for the actual tour?

Jarod: Details on the upcoming tour I can give are small. I can tell you one thing: We plan on using Quake Live only.

So you put all your efforts into a game which is still being developed. What if it won't be released at the end of the year?

Jarod Reisin
Jarod: We will use Quake 3 if it is not ready or useable. But it will be (smiles). Also, I would like to apologize to the communities if I may: It is for earlier in 2008, mentioning we would use four games. I jumped the gun on that and would have loved for that to be possible. But it seems that it would have been very complicated in many areas to do such a thing. I personally apologize for that. In the future, as we grow, we would like to open up new tours supporting other games, so anything is possible. But for now, the AGP Tour is Quake3/Live only.

What about the people who'll join the IRC-Channel afterwards? Will they get an account for your website as well?

Jarod: Not yet. The beta is only available to those invited. For the next beta phase we will need thousands of new people (smiles).

Which countries will be home to tour stops of the AGP Tour?

Jarod: That is debatable. All depends on the variables. If things go as planned, we will eventually have four major tournaments in four different countries and smaller ones everywhere as well. We will have one in the USA. Others could be anywhere, really. It depends on if we have them at other gaming events, etc.

We wish you the best of luck and thank you very much for your time, Jarod.
